"The first rock on the new artificial ice rinks at the McGarry Curling Club, Virginiatown, was thrown by W.C. Row, ....r of Kerr-Addison Gold Mines, limited, at the official opening last night. Waiting their turns are other members of the team, C.W. Ames, immediate past president of the TNO Curling association; A.M. Olson, past president of the McGarry Curling club, and R.J. Beggs, assistant manager of Kerr-Addison. It was a busy, excited night as club members crowded the lounge to see the rinks in action on artificial ice for the first time. There are 150 in the men's club and 70 in the women's section."

"Checking a new box score sheet are several members of the club's executive. Seated, left to right, are W.I. Ross, president; W. Hill, chairman of the draw committee; William Minion, prize committee; standing, Bart Thomson, draw master; M.O. Gardiner, house committee; W.G. Cutler, treasurer, and M. Martin, secretary. Along with the installation of the ice plant came other rink improvements. Wooden beams were removed from the ice surface and replaced by narrow steel beams; wooden dividers which separated the four rinks were removed to provide more ice surface, and, off the main lounge, there is a new locker room containing 30 lockers."
